Welcome to the Institute of Mechanical Handling and Logistics!

As a university research institution, the institute conducts both basic and applied research. Founded in 1927 with a focus on classic mechanical handling, the IFT has continuously expanded its core competencies. Research and development projects are carried out in the fields of Rope Technology and Technical Logistics with a focus on Material Flow Automation and Logistics Processes.

Future-oriented methods, processes, systems and components are developed to meet the challenges of tomorrow. The knowledge gained forms the basis for innovative solutions to current issues in science and industry. In addition to basic research funded by public bodies, the IFT is involved in application-oriented research and research cooperation with industrial partners.

Its own in-house laboratories, workshops and test facilities for the construction of prototypes and test stands enable the rapid, individual and application-oriented implementation of research results.

The IFT is part of the Stuttgart Production Technology Center (PZS) and is involved in the ARENA2036 research campus, the innovation platform for mobility and production of the future.
